A meeting of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors was held on the 4th day of June, 2018, in the Board Room of the Wayne County Courthouse, Corydon, Iowa, pursuant to notice duly given in compliance with Iowa Code Section 21.4. The Board noted due notice of meeting subject to said Code Section.
Present were David Dotts, Duffy Kester, John Sellers, members of the Board of Supervisors.
Unless otherwise noted, all motions were approved unanimously.
Pledge of Allegiance
Kester made the motion seconded by Sellers to approve the Agenda with the addition of the discussion of the engineer vacancy.
Sellers made the motion seconded by Kester to approve the minutes of the May 22nd meeting.
Sellers made the motion with a 2nd by Kester to approve the claims.
Laddie Nimerichter addressed the Board with an update on PAAB (Property Assessment Appeal Board) hearings.
The Board discussed pay raises of 3.5% for non-elected departments. Kester voted to table this with a 2nd by Sellers. After more discussion Kester voted to rescind his motion with a 2nd by Sellers.
Sellers voted to approve the contract with Gary Bishop as interim engineer until Sept. 1st or until a replacement is found. Kester seconded the motion.
Dan Carpenter, secondary roads, addressed the Board about the sale of the bridge on 210th for $1 to Vernon and Kathryn Yoder and $1 to Willis and Anna Yoder.
Sellers made a motion with a 2nd by Kester to approve a contract and authorize the chairman to sign for a patching project with Cedar Falls Construction.
The Board discussed the need to re-advertise for the open engineer position. Board members did not feel comfortable with only one applicant for the position.
Kester made a motion with a 2nd by Sellers to go to closed session for a 6 month review of the Veterans’ Affairs Director. Sellers made a motion with a 2nd by Kester to go out of closed session at 11:10 AM. Sellers made a motion with a 2nd by Kester to change the hourly pay of Joella Perry to $20 per hour effective June 4, 2018.
Kester made the motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by Sellers at 11:15 AM.
There being no further business, the Canvass of the Votes will be held on June 12th at 9:00 AM and the next regular meeting of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors will be held on the 18th day of June at 9:00 AM.
