Board of Supervisors Meeting – February 6, 2017

A meeting of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors was held on the 6th day of February, 2017, in the Board Room of the Wayne County Courthouse, Corydon, Iowa, pursuant to notice duly given in compliance with Iowa Code Section 21.4. The Board noted due notice of meeting subject to said Code Section.

Present were David Dotts, Duffy Kester, John Sellers, members of the Board of Supervisors.
Sellers made the motion with a second by Kester to go into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code 20.17(3).
The regular meeting opened at 10:15.

Unless otherwise noted, all motions were approved unanimously.

Kester made the motion seconded by Sellers to approve the Agenda with one addition – Bonnie Friend, Wayne County Conservation.
Sellers made the motion seconded by Kester to approve the minutes of the January 23, 2017 meeting.
Sellers made the motion seconded by Kester to approve the claims as submitted.

Trevor Wolf appeared to give an update on roadwork in the county. After the work is completed on the bridge south of Allerton, he plans to begin work on the bridge north of Allerton on Linden.

Sheriff Keith Davis was present to introduce the new Deputy Sheriff, Cody Jellison. Davis discussed the need for a padded cell at the jail that would be paid for through Local Option Sales Tax. Sellers made the motion with a second from Kester for Sheriff Davis to purchase the padded cell at a price of $21,500. Davis also discussed funding for the P25 radio system with $71,684 coming from an E911 grant and the remainder of funds from holding inmates.

Kim Swearingin was present to discuss the abatement of 2015 taxes for a Seymour property located at 221 W. Wall St. Sellers made the motion with a second by Kester to have the 2015 taxes of $430 abated.

Supervisors discussed the questionnaire concerning inadequate safety measures that they will return to Ed Morrison.
Sellers made the motion with a second by Kester to adopt Resolution 02-01-17 – A resolution pertaining to employee expenses on claim forms.

Kester made the motion with a second by Sellers to adopt Resolution 02-02-17 – A resolution regarding direct deposit for payroll of all Wayne County employees.

Bonnie Friend updated the board on the progress at the county parks and invited the supervisors to tour the parks to see the progress. The District 5 meeting will be held at the Lakeside Park in Humeston on June 15th and supervisors were asked to attend. Friend also had a “Fund the Trust” sign that she encouraged everyone to sign.

There being no further business the Board adjourned until the next regular meeting to be held on the 21st day of February 2017.
