Board of Supervisors Meeting – August 21, 2017

August 21, 2017

A meeting of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors was held on the 21st day of August, 2017, in the Board Room of the Wayne County Courthouse, Corydon, Iowa, pursuant to notice duly given in compliance with Iowa Code Section 21.4. The Board noted due notice of meeting subject to said Code Section.

Present were David Dotts and Duffy Kester members of the Board of Supervisors. Absent was John Sellers

Unless otherwise noted, all motions were approved unanimously.

Kester made the motion seconded by Dotts to approve the Agenda.
Kester made the motion seconded by Dotts to approve the minutes of the August 7, 2017 meeting.
Kester made the motion with a second by Dotts to approve the claims.

Kester made a motion with a second by Dotts to approve payment for spraying obnoxious weeds on property owned by Alfred Ryder. Total cost was $1787.50 which will be applied to Ryder’s taxes.

Dan Coffey was present to discuss repairs that are needed on the sewer pipe on the north side of the courthouse where tree roots have moved the clay tile. Sewer pipe needs to be replaced and 3 evergreens need to be taken down. Kester made a motion with a second by Dotts to get bids for removal of 3 trees and for repair of the sewer line. An ad will be placed in the 3 newspapers for 2 consecutive weeks for bids for this project.
Coffey also told the Board that the glass doors at the south end of the third floor will be replaced either Friday or Monday with push bar doors.

Kester made a motion with a second by Dotts to table the Return to Work Policy until the Sept. 11th Board meeting.
Dotts made a motion with a second by Kester to adopt the new Light Duty Policy.

Trevor Wolf, Wayne County Engineer, discussed projects that are completed as well as repairs that are needed on old highway 2 west of Corydon. He also discussed a presentation that will be given in October by grad students from Simpson College about the Palmer Amaranth weed which is resistant to weed sprays.

Kester made a motion with a second by Dotts for environmental studies for two ponds for Couchman and Dent at a cost of $1500 per site.

Denise Becker addressed the Board seeking a donation for the Chariton Valley Housing Trust. Kester made a motion with a second by Dotts for a donation from Wayne County of $7500.

Kester made motion with a second by Dotts to adjourn the meeting at 11:00 AM.
There being no further business, the next meeting of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors will be held on the 11th day of September, 2017 at 9:00 AM.
